The “Harry Potter” Films Ranked From Least To Most Christmassy

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2

Warner Bros.

Look, Christmas doesn’t even happen in this movie. It doesn’t exist. Furthermore, the death of dozens of beloved characters doesn’t exactly put me in a festive mood.

Official Christmas Score: -4/10.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1

Warner Bros / Via

Technically, this movie does have a Christmas scene. Hermione and Harry visit the graves of Lily and James Potter, and the Boy-Who-Lived must once more mourn everything he has lost. There’s snow, some carolling, and Hermione does say, “Merry Christmas, Harry.” And what says Christmas more than crying in a snowy graveyard? Most things!

Official Christmas Score: 0.5/10

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Warner Bros.

Not one, but two Christmas scenes! There’s Christmas dinner at the Burrow, and Slughorn’s Christmas party at Hogwarts. But while Half Blood Prince excels in Christmas quantity, it fails in Christmas quality. Slughorn’s party is super awkward, and the Christmas spirit at the Burrow is dampened by Harry, Remus, Tonks, and Moody debating whether or not Snape is about to betray Dumbledore. But, there are Christmas crackers, a Christmas dinner, and even a magical penguin skating on top of a cake, so it’s still way ahead of Deathly Hallows.

Official Christmas Score: 2/10 and an honorary mention for the magical skating penguin.

Harry Potter And The Chamber of Secrets

Warner Bros.

It’s the first Christmas that Harry, Hermione, and Ron celebrate together! True, they celebrate by taking Polyjuice Potion and sneaking into the Slytherin common room, but there’s still plenty of Christmas spirit.

Official Christmas Score: 5/10.

Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix

Warner Bros.

Even though it’s a rather dark film, Order of the Phoenix has one of the most wholesome Christmas scenes in the franchise. There’s also a Santa riding a broomstick, which is pretty darn festive. If Harry wasn’t angsting so hard, I would have given this scene a solid 8, but he really put a damper on the Christmas vibes.

Official Christmas Score: 6/10.

Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban

Amazon / Via

All true Potterheads know that the third Harry Potter film is the BEST Harry Potter film. Academy Award-winning director Alfonso Cuaron perfectly transitions the franchise from the childlike wonder of the first two films into the darker tones of the latter half of the series. He also totally brings on the Christmas vibes. There are snowball fights galore

Official Christmas Score: 9.75/10 (see what I did there?).

Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire

Warner Bros.

The Yule Ball is basically the ultimate Christmas party. We’ve got giant Christmas trees, snow magically falling from the ceiling, and a Hogwarts Christmas feast. What more could you want?

Official Christmas Score: 10/10.

Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone

Warner Bros. / Via

If your heart didn’t melt when Harry said, “I’ve got presents!”, you’re definitely a Death Eater. Philosopher’s Stone sees Harry celebrate his first true Christmas, and the four-minute scene is a pure delight. There’s Hagrid dragging a Christmas tree to Hogwarts like the boss that he is, the first appearance of the iconic Weasley sweater, and Harry getting his first ever-present, an INVISIBILITY CLOAK. It’s literal Christmas magic.

Official Christmas Score: 1000/10.
